NHS England Scrapped: Government slashes red tape

The Government has scrapped NHS England, making good on its promise to slash red tape in public services.

The Conservative & Lid Dems set up NHS England in the widely-despised 2012 Landsley Reforms. The body has since cost the taxpayer billions doubling up on work already done by the health department.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting said he hoped culling NHS England would be ‘the nail in the coffin’ for the disastrous 2012 reforms. Since 2010, the number of people working at NHS England has doubled, while patient satisfaction and outcomes have tanked.

The Government also hopes the move will increase power for local decision makers. In the 2023 Hewitt Review, one local care board reported receiving 97 ad-hoc requests in a month from DHSC and NHS England, in addition to the 6 key monthly, 11 weekly and 3 daily data returns. A huge burden of data gathering and sharing which seems to have done nothing to shift the dial on the actual performance of services.
